Slime Journey, A Slime RPG for BYOND
Mike Oelfke submitted this information about a game he has developed:

The game Slime Journey I uses the system BYOND, or Build Your Own Net Dream. Using this system, there was many flaws in it that could have created problems. But many were averted. The story for this game is that your are a Teenager Slime, and you live in a Slime town. One day, you wish to take an adventure through the world, but you end up getting yourself caught in much more...The survival of your species, and the survival of the entire world. Although many other Fan-Games use the system of Random Encounter Combat, In Slime Journey there is a twist taken where instead of running around the map to encounter the monsters, they randomly walk all over the map. You can encounter anything from 1 to 4 of the monster that you run into. A minor flaw is that you can only fight the type of monster you run into, and very occasionally the strong monsters will wander into the weaker monster area, getting you killed. Most of the time though, this does no happen due to monsters being blocked by invisible barriers, which are worth it. A nice improvement this game has compared to normal Dragon Warrior games, is that after you level to a certain level, your character evolves into the next color slime, and yes, most of them are made up. Like you start as a Blue Slime, then you turn into a Red, then Yellow, etc. Your icon is not the only change. Another change is that when you evolve, your level ups become greater. So instead of getting 1-3 stats every level when your Blue, you get more like 4-6 when your Red. Though those are not the real amounts I like to give examples =P. This game though, does use a different Job system later on. At first, you start as a Beginner, all beginners get the same skills and same type of levels (Its randed so it's no always the same.) Then at a certain point in the game, you meet a group of people, who give you a new job. You can be a Swordsman, Spellcaster, Thief, Priest, or Equaler. Now when you level, they are a lot different then when you are a Beginner. Then, this is changed to, to get new skills, because you lost all your old ones, you must kill monsters and get a Job Level. Every Job Level, you get a new skill to learn (No, I did not steal this off of Ragnarok Online.). When you become Job Level 50, you morph into the next version of that class, getting 10 new skills and better level ups. When you get Job Level 150, you become the Third and final form of your job. You get another 10 Levels, and even better level ups. When you reach Job Level 250, you can no longer level up. Normal Level 500, is max normal level. The Job Level thing is new, and the Normal Level is changed from the initial 99 from Dragon Warrior. There was also a new status alignment created called Disease. If you are diseased, you cannot use skills and spells, or run, you must Attack until you die or the enemy dies. If you wish to check out this game, at any time, its site is http://www.opticalsky.com/shadowsoft/slimejourneyproductions/index.html and its Forum is http://s6.invisionfree.com/SJ_Productions_Board/index.php?act=idx.

If you have played this game, you can submit a review! Slime Journey II for BYOND
Mike Oelfke is still developing Slime Journey II and he sent me this information about it:

Slime Journey II also uses BYOND, on the following site, you can find the end story to Slime Journey I, and the starting story for Slime Journey II, It's kind of large, so I didn't post it here. The site is, http://www.opticalsky.com/shadowsoft/slimejourneyproductions/sj1.html. Now the Retriever's Guild is the name a Guild that searches in the Past worlds, The worlds that you saved in Slime Journey I, to find items that were suddenly lost when the new world was merged with the old. These items were lost in the existence of the Planet's possible futures, pasts, and presents. People that join this guild can get into Battles just like Slime Journey I. Though, before that, when creating your character, you choose a Job, and a new thing, a Clan. This is a brand new feature, I don't think it's even existing on BYOND. When you choose a Clan, you get special bonuses when you level. For example, one guild, Mektory, gives extra HP and MP, when you start the game, you have 10 more HP and MP, if you choose them. Then every level, you get a fraction of the current level extra in HP and MP. So if you are a Blue Slime, you get normally around 10 HP and MP, and you would get around 5 HP and MP extra, because you are in the Mektory Guild. Once again, this game uses the evolving system, and it uses the Job System, but in this, you can level to level 41, and that's max. The skills are much different making the game much better. All of the cheap skills, and really useless skills have been removed from the game. Changing Colors is no longer in a sequence, its really quite random, though more every color. So if you need 15 for Red, your not going to need 10 for Yellow. Its still set, but not anywhere as much as it used to be. Monsters also have a Summoning spell. Most monsters after the 1st Dungeon can cast spells to call more of their types. You can really have a max of 12 vs you Battle, it all depends on how much they summon. I have also recently added a new system that will make the game much easier. A Summoning System, for the player. If you go to a guy in town, you may buy, with Tokens, a Summoning Crystal. You may summon monsters and have a 2 person party. You can control this summon everyway you want, EXCEPT its targets. Next, I'm doing a Party System, but that won't be easy. This game deserves a 4 or 5 out of 5, because in my mind, it is great, just like Dragon Warrior, and many things are used and made, because Dragon Warrior exists. The site again is, http://www.opticalsky.com/shadowsoft/slimejourneyproductions/index.html. And the forums are http://s6.invisionfree.com/SJ_Productions_Board/index.php?act=idx.

Red Slime Protest
Earlier today Red Slimes went on a protest march after finding out that Dragon Quest VIII will not have Red King Slimes, or Red Kings for short. At several cities, such as Aliahan, the Red Slimes slithered and bounced in what they called a march for monster rights.

Red Slime march at Aliahan

The Red Slime protest leader, Tibble, says that the Red Slimes have asked for Red Kings ever since the first game to feature king slimes, Dragon Quest IV. But Enix refused to put them in any of the games. After Enix merged with Square and became Square Enix, the Red Slimes hoped things would be different.

Apperantly the Red Slimes feel they have been neglected in several games in the series. "We have lived around Aliahan for years, but we were only seen much later in Dragon Warrior III, after we would no longer be a threat," Tibble says.

The Red Slimes and plan to protest next week with the MAMA (Monsters Against Monster Abuse) againt their mistreatment in the popular media. This protest group has existed since the genocide in the movie Gremlins. New Comic!
