Dragon Warrior in Brazil
I got an email from the webmaster of the Dragon Warrior Home Page. He knows a little English and confirmed he was from Brazil. Apparently Dragon Warrior is pretty popular there. He gets about 8 emails a week from his site.

The Kingdom of Alefgard
The Kingdom of Alefgard has been remade and greatly improved. The webmaster (Loric) is still working on cleaning it up and the current format is still in a testing stage. So far it is the most visually appealing site I've ever seen, and Loric's working on the most complete Bestiaries I know of. Remember to surf his site by using the roman numerals on the upper right.

Dragon Quest Manga Translation
Pendy of the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior News Network reported some interesting news today including the location of a Dragon Quest Manga Translation page called the Dragon Quest 4koma Manga Translations Page:
  • The current translations are of 30 or more short comic strips you might expect to find in newspapers.
  • One of them is about a king slime similar to a couple of my Dragon Warrior animated gifs.
  • Remember to read it from right to left or it won't make sense!

Brazilian Dragon Warrior Site?
A new site is doing pretty good in the Dragon Warrior Top 10 I've never seen before. It's called Dragon Warrior Home Page. It has a few screen shots and charts that seem to be in English, but is mainly in a different language.

Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior News Network
The Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior News Network reports on the sales of Dragon Warrior 1&2.

Dragon Warrior 1&2 Art
RPGamer.com added Dragon Warrior 1&2 Maps and Art.

Dragon-Warrior.com Search Engines
After playing around with the Dragon-Warrior.com Search Engine code I found out the score results are actually broken. The search engine can still work if you are careful and use +'s before important words you want to be in the results.

I emailed the programmer about the problem with the Search Engine and he will fix the code in the next few days or so.

I remade the Search Engine and FAQs pages to have their older search engines for until the new search engine is fixed. Keep in mind that the older search engines don't work the same as the new one. You must write in lowercase (and without commas, +'s, etc.)

Help Dustin's Dragon Quest Shrine
Dustin needs some people to help remake his Dragon Quest Shrine and keep it up to date. He needs Site Tuner, Letter Columnists, a Music Shrine Maintainer, New Designs, and a Major Updater. A couple people have volunteered to remake (Darkni's) Music Shrine but more might be appreciated.

Dragon Quest 3: Game Boy Color Reviews
Gekko translated several Dragon Quest 3 GBC reviews for the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior News Network.

Dragon Warrior 1 Rumor
There is a rumor of a place where you use the stairs where you don't see any in Charlock Castle that takes you to a room with super Drakeemas. It might be a common Game Genie glitch. If anyone knows where to search please send me a map that shows where it is. You can get a map of Charlock at the Dragon's Den. Check the message on my message board.

Dragon Warrior 1&2: Game Boy Color Patch
Erdrick (Daniel0777) created a Continuity Patch for Dragon Warrior 1&2 GBC. It brings back the Old English and original NES names. Go to Daniel's Dragon Warrior Page to download the patch.

New Dragon Warrior Monsters Codes
The All Mighty DarkDrium sent me more codes he made. (He created them without even hacking). This one has to do with Future Terry (the old hero?): 01D7CACA, NoName:01E7CACA, NoName:01E8CACA, NoName:01E9CACA.

The All Mighty DarkDrium admits these codes may make the game a little messed up:

When you input the codes the first monster in the farm must be in the farm and you can't take them out, but on the other hand they are very good at breeding the guys and will go up by 5 (which is kind of good and the stats won't be too bad either). Another thing is don't go past the stats thingy when you get the guy. I think this is the reason that hackers don't post this on their site!!!

How to get Seach Engine Results
My new search engine actually works differently than the old one. It seems at first to give terrible results. It is a little more difficult to use, but can actually give better results. I will change it to be easy as well as keep the new features if possible.
  • + sign: must have this word (+anime = must contain the term anime in the result)
  • - sign: must not contain this word (-anime must not contain results with the word anime)
  • "quotes": read as a phrase ("I buy" = only give results if they contain I buy in the right order)

Dragon-Warrior.com Search Engines
I improved all the Dragon-Warrior.com Search Engines. Now any webpage can add the search engine to their site. Get the Dragon-Warrior.com Search Engine Code! Any of the search options may easily be removed. (For example if you only want the regular Dragon Warrior Links Search.)

Important Poll! What sections do you use most?
To encourage suggestions and decide what sections I should concentrate on I added this new poll: What sections do you use most?

Dragon-Warrior.com Logo
I made this logo (the one on each main page) for my site using a couple screen shots and editing them to death until they looked decent and had a decent file size (there are several black-looking colors that highly increase file size among other things.) Let me know what you think! Was the old one better?

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Screen Shots
Gamers.com added 27 Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Screen Shots.

Dragon-Warrior.com Reorganization
I moved the drop boxes to the new Dragon-Warrior.com Archives Section. I will update the archives section about once a month after I remove the last month's news (therefore files/pages involved otherwise wouldn't be available) and that month's news will also be added to the Dragon-Warrior.com archives.

I also made the Site Guide page a regular section of my site to help people figure out what my site has to offer as well as adding a search engine to it. The Site Guide Search Engine has all the major sections of my site as well as subsections found on those pages (such as the categories of the Dragon Warrior Directory.)

I hope my site changes will help it be more organized and reveal its focus: A Dragon Warrior guide. It is made to help fans know Dragon Warrior news and answers, and help them find what they are looking for. I consider my animated gifs, pictures, and other projects as just part of the news concearning the Dragon Warrior Community (as any other animated gifs and projects I get a hold of).

I'm thinking about making the news search (found in the archives section) apply to every news update separately with results that take you straight to the desired update on the archived page. I might also make the search engine an archive search engine instead of just the news. (That wouldn't guarantee the specific news search mentioned before).

I haven't decided yet if I want more or less (if any) images shown in the Dragon Warrior news. Because I removed a couple larger images and removed the drop boxes from the Dragon-Warrior.com home page it should now have a much more decent load time.

Please comment on what you think about the site changes and give any ideas if possible on the Dragon-Warrior.com Message Board. Would you find a search for my news (or all) archives useful? If anyone volunteers to help that would be greatly appreciated.

Darkni's Dragon Warrior Midi Shrine Mirror
Darkni's Shrine could be closed within the next couple months so I decided to save all the files possible and make a mirror site. Although several links may be broken, all the music should be able to be downloaded by the large zip file links on the top of each midi page. I'm not certain yet if Darkni wants me to update it a little, but I do not have time to update it constantly as it deserves. So far I did add a corny animation intro on the index page.

Dragon Warrior Series FAQ Update
I answered 25 more questions about the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior Series. I now have a total of 100 questions answered in the Dragon-Warrior.com FAQs. I mainly answered questions about the new Dragon Warrior releases, Dragon Warrior Monsters background information, playing solo, and how damage is determined. I also answered questions to Dragon Warrior Mysteries such as why levels make you stronger, why wolves are so strong, and how slimes can hurt you.

Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 Breeding Speculation
Using my icons I created a breeding chart for possible King Slimes in Dragon Warrior 2 to help answer a question on the Dragon Quest Series FAQ.

Dragon Quest 3: Game Boy Color Information
I found some interesting information on Dragon Quest 3 GBC:

Focus is working on the monster coin/monster chart for Dragon Quest 3: Game Boy Color. There are bronze, silver, and gold coins to be found for each monster. Focus found 140 out of 165 bronze coins. Monster coins don't actually do anything in the game. You can collect them and trade with friends.

The game has a cool way to determine Erdrick's personality by asking questions. If you say yes to all the questions you play a scene where you are a firebreathing monster. The people you poof with your fire (as the monster) also help determine your personality. Your personality might also affect how people talk to you (no guarantees...)

When you defeat Shinryuu you get four choices for wishes:
  • a new sugoroku board (board game)
  • revives Ortega
  • a sexy book (hentai?)
  • rare medals
If you revive Ortega he appears at Aliahan where people... are happy about that. The rare medals option gives you one of each type of coin for Baramos, Zoma, and Shinryuu.

Dragon Quest 3: Game Boy Color Screen Shots
RPGfan.com added several screen shots to Dragon Quest 3: Game Boy Color.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2
RPGFan.com had an article on some new information released on Dragon Quest Monsters 2. The game will have 2 versions: Ruka's Journey and Iru's Journey. They will both have a different main character who can use different monsters. In Ruka's Journey Ruka uses offensive monsters, and in Iru's Journey Iru uses assistance-type (cooperative?) monsters.

Help Redesign Dustin's Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior Shrine!
Dustin Hubbard posted the following on his message board:

I realize the shrine has fallen into somewhat disrepair and I need some help getting it back together and better than ever and I need some people to help! Please post your ideas for the shrine on what you would like to see done, changed, or added and I'll take the best ideas and do them. I want to make the shrine the best damn Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior site out there and I need your help to do it. Also on top of ideas I'm looking for people to help out with sections, just volunteer and we'll setup some time for me to interview you to see if you'd be dedicated enough to do it. One idea I tried was the letter column but that failed miserably and I'd really like to see that get started. Give any kind of suggestions, designing changes, maybe the images are too big (I've heard this many times but haven't got many suggestions on how to fix this) etc. So post away!

The Dragon's Den
The Dragon's Den has these major updates:
  • Updated the movie intro (very cool!)
  • Added PDF file scans to the Dragon Warrior 1-4 instruction booklets.
  • Updated the fanfiction: The Saga Begins.

BS Dragon Quest
_Niel confirmed he would continue work on BS Dragon Quest when his translation on Dragon Quest 5 is finished, but it will only be for menus and items, not dialogue. Also, _Niel might not finish translating Dragon Quest 1&2 for the Super Famicom, since its being tranlated by another group.

I found the ROM to BS Dragon Quest at the Dragon's Den.

Dragon Warrior Search Engine
I added these two links to the Dragon Warrior Search Engine and Directory:
  • Dragon Warrior Anime - A site on the US release of the Dragon Warrior television series with pictures, movie clips, and script.
  • RZ Productions - The Dragon Quest Anime: Dai No Daibouken (FLY) fansub project. You can buy the episodes the have finished.

Dragon Warrior Legend
RPGking made more progress on Dragon Warrior Legend (his own original Dragon Warrior game). He has been programming his own party system, and is having some problems getting the party members to follow the hero quickly. They follow behind in a distance similar to Dash in the Japanese NES Final Fantasy 3. (I'm not quite sure how fast that is.) RPGking is also working on the menu system which is starting to look like the real Dragon Warrior menu system.

Also RPGking will be gone for a couple weeks starting this weekend (meaning a temporary halt in progress).

Imperial Scrolls of (~)
Brainwave added a new column on Dragon Warrior.

BS Dragon Quest
Spinner 8 found the rom to BS Dragon Quest at SNESmerism, and eventually _Niel got a hold of it and decided to translate it. (This was 9 months ago so I have no idea if he still plans on finishing it.) He said he would translate it after he finishes translating Dragon Quest 5 (which isn't done yet...) He did finish translating the menu system and some items, so its somewhat playable.

BS Dragon Quest seems to be the same as Dragon Quest 1 remixed for the Super Nintendo with a timer.

I wouldn't bother looking for SNESmerism as I have and found that it no longer exists on a few old URLs. If you know where it is please email me!

Dragon Quest Anime: Dai No Daibouken (FLY) Fansub
I got an email from Ramza from RZ Productions on their progress translating Dai No Daibouken:
Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken 1-4 is finished. Because we're missing a few sources, the next tape we will be working on is 13-16, which will probably enter the translation process next week and be ready by the middle of Junuary. However, the orders for the 1-4 tape have been rather low, which means there's less money for us to use to translate the rest of the series. This may be due to the fact that no one realizes we completed the tape or maybe it's due to other things. Basically what I'm saying though is that we need more orders and sponsors so that we can complete the series. Although it doesn't say this in the sponsors section on the page, every 5 orders does fill one sponsor slot. But anyway, it's a great show, similar to Dragon Ball, and has a very RPG/adventure feel to it. I feel the American audience has been missing out on this series for way too long. If we're ever going to finish it though, we're going to need everyone's help. Thanks.

Dragon Warrior Monsters: Game Cube
According to FaceTree3, FunCo Gamers Weekly has listed Dragon Warrior Monsters as a game that will come out for the Nintendo Game Cube! Of course I can't be certain it's right since Enix hasn't announced the development of such a game. I did email Enix regarding this game a few days ago. If it does come out I don't know if it will be an entirely different Dragon Warrior Monster game, or a remake of the Game Boy version.

Dragon Warrior 3: Game Boy Color
This game will be based on the Super Famicom remix of Dragon Quest 3. Here are some differences between the Dragon Quest 3 Super Famicom remix from the standard Dragon Warrior 3 game for Nintendo:
  • There is a board game called the Sugoroku Mini Game. You play by collecting golden tickets (gained from fighting monsters). For completing the game you gain a small medal. You spend small medals at the Small Medal Shrine for goodies.
  • There is a quiz at the beginning of the game called the Seikaku System which creates a personality for the hero. The hero's personality determines the hero's ability statistics. Taking the quiz involves answering questions about yourself and playing mini games.
  • There is tremendously difficult bonus dungeon at the end of the game where a monster resembling Baramos (roughly translated into Baramos Evil) who is a mere random monster encounter. [This information was edited with the help of Focus.]
  • Bosses were made more difficult, but are more rewarding to defeat.
  • It has the thief class! Thieves... learn some spells. That's about all I know about them.
  • Merchants are improved by learning some spells.
  • For more details on the differences go to the GameFAQs.com Dragon Quest 3 remix review or the general Dragon Quest 3 remix FAQ page.

Dragon Warrior 83
Although the programmer (Zelch42) has been very busy with life, expect Dragon Warrior 83's progress to continue. This game is made for the TI-83 calculator and has extremely limited space. It does have nice graphics (for such a game) but due to such a low amount of memory it is uncertain how detailed the plot and options can be. The programmer is working on adding important items and towns to the game. After that the story line can be expanded on (which takes place on Alefgard between Dragon Warrior 3 and Dragon Warrior 1).

Dragon Warrior Series FAQ
I answered 10 more questions in the Dragon Quest Series FAQ (now with a total of 43 questions). This FAQ answers all the basic questions to Dragon Warrior in general (rather than all the statistics or a walkthrough). You may search though all the questions to the Dragon-Warrior.com Site FAQ and Dragon Warrior Series FAQ (a total of 75 questions) at the FAQ Section of Dragon-Warrior.com.

Dragon Warrior Legend Progress
RPGking has the following progress and plans for programming Dragon Warrior Legend:
  • he already fully completed the party system and the item system (similar to Dragon Quest 6 with the item bag)
  • next he plans on making the item database (with all the items)
  • finally he plans on making the battle system

Heroes of Might and Magic III: Dragon Warrior Edition!
As you may have heard Heroes of Might and Magic III (the popular strategy game) has been edited to play characters and monsters from Dragon Warrior. Just kidding! But Focus did create an image of what such a game could look like... Also there really is an editor that lets you edit monsters (to be from Dragon Warrior) for Heroes of Might and Magic III but its poorly translated into english at http://www.multimania.com/modhomm3/

12.6.2000

Dragon-Warrior.com Intro
I added a corny intro to Dragon-Warrior.com at my former URL: jimgray.tripod.com. Notice the image I drew of the Dragonlord was inspired by a picture of a red dragon from the Dragon Warrior Adventurer's Handbook.

Dragon-Warrior.com FAQ
I finally completed answering several questions for the Dragon-Warrior.com FAQ. There are now 2 sections: a Dragon Warrior Series FAQ and a Dragon-Warrior.com FAQ. With 65 questions answered total, about all important questions about Dragon Warrior and my site have been answered. These sections are not yet part of my site FAQ. I also created a search engine that allows you to search directly for any question on either page that I have answered, which is in the FAQs Section of my site.

Dragon Warrior Anime
A new page about the original (and only English) Dragon Warrior Anime is being created called Dragon Warrior Anime. It has some downloads of the Anime episodes and introduction. (Possibly containing an entire episode...)

Donald's Dragon Warrior Game
I wasn't going to post this until I got more information but since today I have so many Fan-Made Dragon Warrior project news I might as well mention it. This game sounds very promising. The programmer actually posted the news of his own game on my message board! (Sometimes cool posts are there, so you should check it out.) Here are the details I have for this game:
  • It's 1/3 done
  • It will be very long
  • The story is between Dragon Warrior 2 and Dragon Warrior 1
  • It will explain what happened to Erdrick
  • The graphics are from around the web

"A Side Story" Java Dragon Warrior Game
I finally got in touch with Evans about his Java Dragon Warrior Game. (Its actually made by one other person but I don't have his/her name.)
  • It's a final project (so will hopefully be done soon.)
  • the battle are almost done
  • we are using images gotten from the internet, but we plan to use our own as soon as we find somebody to do them...
  • There are no NPCs yet
  • The story will be made after working on adding NPCs
  • It will be a side story.
  • The game will not be available online for now (and may never be...)

Dragon Quest Java Game
This is the original java game I mentioned just last month! It is by Nlmueng. It is very simple and not very interactive. (He made it in a couple hours.) Here are some of the main details on the Dragon Quest Java Game:
  • The game isn't always online due to an unreliable webserver.
  • The game will hopefully be moved on a reliable server in about a month.
  • Nlmueng might improve it
  • If Nlmueng improves it, he might make it multi-playered
  • Nlmueng has made a multi-player online game before and could use the same code.
  • Check it out here! [Internet Explorer only]

Dragon Warrior Legend
I found out more information on Dragon Warrior Legend:
  • The story will be completely original and unrelated to the other games
  • The story will follow in Dragon Warrior tradition
  • RPGking is discovering how the statistics go mostly for himself
  • He will probably send me some screen shots soon.

Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior News Network
The The Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior News Network reports that the Dai No Daibouken (FLY) Fansub project by RZ Productions is planned to subtitle the entire 46 episode series. To do this they need sponsors and copies of a few of the hard to find episodes. RZ Productions is hoping to release volume one by next week.

12.3.2000

Dragon Warrior Legend
RpgKing is creating this new Dragon Warrior game for the PC. He is programming it using Verge2. The game will be graphically similar to Dragon Quest 5 and the advancement system will be similar to Grandia's elemental system. RpgKing is also considering creating a "Dragon Warrior Interface" for Verge2 to help anyone make a Dragon Warrior game once Dragon Warrior Legend is finished. Some of his current progress follows:
  • completed original world map/town/dungeon tile sets
  • completed a few maps
  • coding the menu interface, item system, and party systems

Dragon Quest Anime: Dai No Daibouken (FLY) Fansub
RZ Productions updated today with the following updates on their Dragon Quest anime translation:

Dragon Quest Dai 1-4 has been delayed several times in the past but everything is going just fine now. The timing is finished and all we have to do now is to the final mastering and then we'll send out copies to the sponsors. All of this will be done within the next week. We'll finally be finished!
